It has been a while since the last posting, but that’s just due to not a whole lot happening in 2023 aside from a couple of map completions for FreonDM. The beginning of 2024 started off right though for Zan with some of my free time going toward massive cleaning of the tracker and 30 or so contributions to the code base (fixing bugs) along with testing of fixes for 3.2. It was fun and challenging peaking around the engine and learning some new things about how areas worked. I’m not a C++ wizard and I’ll probably never be, but I did sharpen up a bit working with Torr and the others. Unfortunately around May real life decided it needed to twist things around (nothing major just typical) and I had to break away for a while.
Regardless, the next version is shaping up to have a lot of good fixes and additions. So much has gone into it that one can argue it could be a 4.0 release rather than a so called ‘minor’ 3.2 release. I won’t go into detail of what fixes have gone in; it’s better to check the Zan forum threads. Perhaps 3.2 might be enough to hold people for a while while 4.0 gets worked on. The hopefully upcoming 4.0 is going to be a pivotal release that could honestly make or break the port. I may write some thoughts about it but for now we’ll all just have to wait and see what cards get drawn.
